Welcome to the Dove Direct Print and Marketing Blog. Today's post, "Georgia Senate Runoff and Mail-In Ballots," reaffirms the value of mail-in ballots in a presidential election, as well as the need for secure voting methods that can be audited by machine or hand. The fact that we can use mail-in ballots in Georgia's upcoming Senate runoff election scheduled for January 5, 2021, is good for the electorate. While the presidential race's final tally is forthcoming, the overwhelming amount of democratic and republican voters using mail-in ballots is astounding. Many political pundits credit President-Elect Joe Biden's apparent victory to the number of early voters who delivered their ballot to a drop-off box, the USPS, or in person. Further, the number of voters using mail-in ballots has changed the game, and we can expect that more voters will opt to use this method in the foreseeable future. The coronavirus pandemic and the spike in COVID-19 cases across the country will make mail-in ballots an imperative for voters, especially those voting in Georgia's Senate runoff races.
Quote of the Day: "The invention of the printing press was one of the most important events in human history." - Ha-Joon Chang
While online inboxes remain flush with political commentary, mail-in ballots were the clear winner at the end of the day. The voters have spoken. They prefer mail-in ballots. The general election results may indicate that we are heading towards a trend as more states opt to invest in a mail-in ballot infrastructure that voters trust and prefer, even after the pandemic is under control.
The Case In Georgia
Assuming that President-Elect Joe Biden maintains his current 10,000+ lead and emerges victorious as Georgia makes its final tally, another race for control of the Senate is already taking center stage.
However, keep in mind that there are more than 10-thousand outstanding votes. While the count has been leaning towards President-Elect Joe Biden, it won't be a wrap until the votes are tallied and certified. However, election data gurus speculate that the current trend will slightly break for Biden. We'll have to wait and see. Unless the senatorial incumbents reach the 50 percent threshold to avoid a runoff, Georgia will experience two senatorial races in January. That said, both the Republican and Democratic parties are gearing up for what could be the pivotal election of the new year. We know for sure that Democrats Reverend Warnock and Jon Ossoff will challenge Republican Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Purdue in the Senate runoff.
Timing
It's critical to understand that early voting in the Senate runoff begins December 14, 2020, culminating with the final vote day on January 5, 2021. The people who are planning to vote in the special election should request the absentee ballot now.
Political campaigns for both sides are in full swing. Already, many PACs have begun marketing to the electorate. Many constituents can expect to receive direct mail campaign pieces as you read this post. That type of one-to-one communications is vital to deliver closing arguments as soon and as often as possible.
Political supporters and campaign operatives are now moving into Georgia for the final push. News stations report that former presidential-candidate Andrew Yang is temporarily relocating his staff to Georgia to help democrats. At the same time, another former presidential-candidate, Pete Buttigieg, is also en-route to the Peach State. With a race this consequential, it is likely that more political operatives from both sides will descend upon Georgia over the next 60 days.
Further, we can deduce that all omnichannel and multichannel mediums, including telecalls, email marketing, banner ads, and the like, will saturate the market. Direct mail print collateral creation is underway and arriving in mailboxes daily. Given the significance of the race and the fact that control of the Senate hangs in the balance, voters will be overwhelmed by the amount of marketing that will occur up to and throughout the final day of voting.
Direct Mail Marketing Execution
Direct mail marketing's engagement and response rates lead all mediums. Therefore, it would be wise for the campaigns to invest in direct mail marketing to increase visibility, capture the voter in the comfort of their own home, and remind them why their candidate should receive their vote.
Since both campaigns have acquired voter lists, the lists will form the basis to execute variable digital print marketing. Variable digital printing provides a process whereby the data can be massaged, sliced, and diced into various groups by demographics, income, voter preferences, ethnicity, zip codes, precincts, and other meaningful data points.
Since time is of the essence, political campaigns should select a full-service print and mail solutions provider. The goal should be to identify a provider with the infrastructure, experience, and knowledge of mail sorting, delivering, and tracking within the organization.
In addition, a full-service mail solutions provider that offers fully automated MLOCR, barcode presort, lettershop and fulfillment, and a certified USPS® in-house mail clerk will save the shrewdest politicians and advocates time, money, and resources. A provider like Dove Direct checks all of those boxes and more. Therefore, if your campaign is looking to add direct mail marketing to your political marketing mix, then Dove Direct should be a high consideration on your list.
The Net-Net
Direct mail marketing is now front and center, as it is deemed the most trusted of all mediums. This trustworthiness hits the bulls-eye as it relates to mail-in ballots. Millions of voters have shown that they trust mail-in ballots, thus increasing the value of mail overall. One can argue that millions of online political marketing communications can be useful to a degree. However, if you want to be sure that your message has the reach and response rate you require, you should accompany your online efforts with direct mail marketing. Messages that land in physical mailboxes will be read, and the right call to action will deliver a response. Thanks for taking a few moments to read Georgia Senate Runoff and Mail-in Ballots!
